Aluminium (Metalphoto Anodised) – Our recommended choice for water utilities, chemical environments, and any application requiring exceptional durability. The Metalphoto process creates a photographic image sealed within the anodic layer of the aluminium – not printed on top, but embedded inside the surface. This makes the marking resistant to water immersion, chemicals, UV exposure, and abrasion. Rated for 20+ years outdoor life. We use this exclusively for water company compliance tags where long term legibility is critical.
We manufacture valve tags in standard and custom configurations:
Round tags – The most common format. Available in 25mm, 30mm, 38mm, 50mm, and larger diameters. Simple to attach and easy to read. Ideal for sequential numbering systems.
Rectangular tags – Better for longer text or multiple lines of information. Standard sizes include 25x50mm and 25x75mm, but we can produce any size you need.
Hanger tags – Shaped tags with an extended neck for hanging from valve handles or pipework. The design keeps the tag visible and prevents it spinning to hide the information.
Custom shapes – If you need something specific, we can produce tags in virtually any shape. Some customers specify octagonal or diamond shaped tags to distinguish different valve types at a glance.
All tags can be supplied with pre-drilled holes, typically 3mm, 4mm, or 5mm diameter depending on your preferred attachment method.
Photo Anodising (Metalphoto) – For aluminium tags requiring photographic detail, barcodes, or logos. The image is sealed within the anodised surface for exceptional durability – rated for 20+ years outdoor exposure. This is the preferred material and process for all our metal labels.
The specific details on your valve tags depend on your systems and requirements, but common approaches include:
Simple numbering – Tags marked 1, 2, 3… or with a prefix like V1, V2, V3 or HWS-01, HWS-02 (hot water supply). The numbers correspond to a valve schedule or P&ID drawings.
Descriptive labels – Direct identification like “CHILLED WATER RETURN ISOLATION” or “GAS MAIN SHUTOFF”. More immediately useful but requires larger tags for longer descriptions.
Colour coding – Different coloured tags for different systems (red for fire, blue for water, yellow for gas, etc.) combined with numbering. Helps engineers locate the right system quickly.
QR codes or barcodes – Link physical tags to digital records, maintenance histories, or operating procedures. Useful for complex facilities with asset management systems.
Directional information – Open/closed positions, flow direction, or operating instructions where relevant.

Ball chains – Stainless steel or nickel-plated chains that loop around valve handles or pipework. Easy to install and adjust. We supply chains in various lengths with connectors.
Wire rope – Stainless steel wire with ferrule crimps for more secure attachment. Better for high-vibration environments or where tamper resistance matters.
Cable ties – Stainless steel or nylon ties for semi-permanent attachment. Quick to install but harder to remove without cutting.
Split rings – Simple option for applications where tags might need occasional removal.
Self adhesive – For flat surfaces where drilling or hanging isn’t practical. We use industrial-grade adhesive suitable for most surfaces.

What’s the most durable material for valve tags? Anodised Aluminium For extreme environments like offshore oil platforms or chemical plants, this is the only sensible choice.
Can you match our existing valve tags? Usually, yes. Send us a sample or clear photograph and we can recreate the design. If you’re extending or refurbishing an existing system, matching the original tags maintains consistency across your site.
What’s the minimum order? We have no minimum – we’re happy to produce single tags for replacements or small projects. Unit costs reduce with quantity, so we’ll always quote for the volume that makes sense for your needs.
How do valve tags relate to pipe markers? They work together. Pipe markers identify what’s flowing through the pipes; valve tags identify which valve controls that flow. For a complete identification system, you typically need both. We can supply pipe markers as well if you need them.
Do you supply the chains and fixings? Yes, we can supply stainless steel ball chains, wire rope with ferrules, cable ties, and split rings. Let us know your preference and we’ll include them with your tags.
