Labels That Last the Lifetime of Your Data Centre

Data centres demand identification that doesn’t fail. When you’re managing thousands of cables, hundreds of racks, and equipment worth millions, readable labels aren’t optional, they’re critical infrastructure.

We manufacture data centre labels using Metalphoto anodised aluminium, delivering identification that remains scannable and legible for 20+ years in demanding environments. No fading under hot aisle temperatures. No degradation from constant handling. No replacement cycles that disrupt operations.

Whether you’re a colocation provider rolling out new capacity, an enterprise IT team managing on-premise infrastructure, or a facilities contractor labelling a new build, we supply labels engineered for the standards your data centre requires, including full compliance with ANSI/TIA-606.

Why Metalphoto for Data Centres

Permanent Identification for Critical Infrastructure

Data centres create challenging conditions for labels. Hot aisle temperatures reaching 35°C or higher. Constant handling during maintenance and audits. Years, sometimes decades, between equipment refresh cycles. Most labels simply can’t cope.

How standard materials fail:

Paper and vinyl labels curl at the edges, lose adhesion, and fade within months. Barcodes become unscannable. Text becomes illegible. Every failed label means manual cable tracing and extended downtime.

Plastic asset tags degrade under sustained heat and UV exposure from LED lighting. Surface printing wears off with handling. Within a few years, your asset tracking system loses integrity.

Thermal transfer labels offer better durability than paper, but still fade over time. In a data centre expected to operate for 15-25 years, you’ll be replacing labels multiple times.

Metalphoto is different.

The image is photographically developed within the anodic layer of the aluminium, sealed inside the metal, not sitting on the surface. This construction has been tested to survive:

  • 20+ years equivalent outdoor UV exposure
  • Temperatures from -55°C to +260°C
  • 7,000 Taber cycles of abrasion resistance
  • Chemical exposure including cleaning agents and solvents

When your data centre is classified as Critical National Infrastructure, your labels should match that standard.

Data Centre Applications

From Cable Management to Asset Tracking

We supply labels for every identification requirement across the data centre environment, from structured cabling to facility wayfinding.

Server Rack Identification

Rack labels that remain readable for the life of the equipment they identify. Clear row and rack identification supporting efficient navigation and maintenance. U-position markers for precise equipment location. Labels survive the constant opening, closing, and handling that racks experience.

Structured Cabling Labels

Cable identification meeting ANSI/TIA-606 requirements. Both ends labelled with source and destination. Patch panel identification. Fibre and copper differentiation. Labels that remain scannable through thousands of maintenance events over the infrastructure’s lifetime.

Asset Management Tags

Durable asset identification for servers, switches, storage arrays, and network equipment. Barcode and Data Matrix capability for integration with your DCIM or ITAM systems. Photographic resolution ensures reliable scanning even at small label sizes required for dense equipment.

Patch Panel and Port Identification

Clear port numbering that doesn’t wear off with repeated patching. Faceplate labels for switches and routers. Equipment identification visible from both hot and cold aisles. Supporting rapid troubleshooting when every minute of downtime costs money. That’s why equipment labels are important.

Facility and Wayfinding Signage

Row markers, aisle identification, and zone signage. Emergency egress marking. Colour-coded zones for different security levels or customer cages. Signage that meets the professional standards expected in mission critical facilities.

Power Distribution Labels

PDU identification and circuit marking. UPS and generator labelling. Electrical panel schedules. Clear power source identification supporting safe maintenance procedures and rapid fault isolation.

TIA-606 Compliance

Meeting Industry Standards

ANSI/TIA-606-D establishes the administration standard for telecommunications infrastructure — and it’s built around labelling. The standard specifies what must be labelled, how labels should be formatted, and the durability requirements they must meet.

TIA-606 Labelling Requirements:

  • Labels must be logical and consistent across all locations
  • Labels must identify associated physical locations (building, room, cabinet, rack, port)
  • Labels must be legible, durable, and capable of surviving for the life of the component
  • Labels must be resistant to environmental conditions at the point of installation
  • All cables and pathways must be labelled at each end
  • Labels must meet requirements for legibility, defacement, and adhesion per UL969

Why Metalphoto for TIA-606 Compliance:

The standard explicitly requires labels to survive for the life of the labelled component. For structured cabling designed to last 15-25 years, that rules out most label materials.

Our Metalphoto labels provide:

  • Photographic resolution — crisp text and scannable barcodes at any size
  • Tested durability — 20+ year equivalent exposure testing
  • UL969 compliance — meeting the adhesion and defacement requirements the standard specifies
  • Environmental resistance — performance maintained across data centre temperature ranges

We can produce labels following TIA-606 formatting conventions, including recommended colour coding for demarcation points, network connections, backbone cabling, and horizontal runs.
