Engraved Plaques

I have recently been looking at engraved plaques as I think they would be a really nice addition to the front of our house as well as showing people what the number and name of our residence is. However, my husband totally disagrees with me. He says that engraved plaques would not give out the right image of the type of family we are. When I pressed him on what he meant by this he could not answer me but merely told me that engraved plaques would be inappropriate for our home. Sometimes, I must say, his attitude really infuriates me. He honestly talks like somebody from another century at times and has views that are totally opposed with most of modern society. I am determined that I will not be swayed by him on this matter as I usually am because I know that this time I am in the right. Lots of people on our street have these type of plaques outside their home and they really are the same type of family as us. In fact, many of them are our friends and our children play together regularly. I have resolved to have a really serious talk with my husband about the matter.

Engraved Signs

I have a friend who makes engraved signs for a living. He makes all sorts of engraved signs, from house names and numbers to engraved signs for historic properties and stately homes and he seems to be very much in demand for his products at the moment. He has always been keen on the artistic field and was really good at art at school. He really wanted to go on to university to do fine art but, at the last minute, he thought he was not good enough and backed out. We were all very surprised but then pleased for him when he got a job with the company he works for now making engraved signs and he has worked his way up through the business. Thankfully, he has a very good position there now and has really done well for himself. He is able to afford a really nice house in the suburbs and at least two holidays a year so he is obviously a success. I often wonder though if he harbours any regrets about not pursuing the dream of being an artist as I know that this was his first love. However, I guess that if he felt he was not good enough back then, he would constantly be feeling insecure if he pursued that dream.

Brass Plaques

My sister has been looking for some brass plaques recently. As she is secretary of the local golf club, she needs to make sure that everything is kept up to date and correct and brass plaques are something that the golf club need regularly for competitions. Although they have had a certain supplier of brass plaques for some years now, my sister has decided to see if she could get the plaques any cheaper. After all, she says, with a recession gripping the country, one would think that a lot of companies would be rushing to sell their products at a cheaper price just to stay in business. This is what I really admire about my sister. She is always ahead of the game when it comes to ideas. In every job she has ever undertaken she has always saved the company some money because of her ideas and, consequently, has always been really well thought of as an employee. It is the same in her current position. With initiatives like this that she is putting in place regularly, her employers really recognise how valuable she is to the company`s future success and therefore value her deeply.

Brass Signs

I have a friend who makes brass signs for a living and he has been doing this for a long time now. He makes brass signs for all sorts of different people, from business to individuals and he sometimes has some quite bizarre requests. He was telling us the other day that one of the companies that he gets regular work from had asked him to make some brass signs with jokes about their employees on. When my friend asked the client why he was doing this he said it was something that he wanted to do for his employees to give them a laugh. My friend obviously agreed to do the job, after all he was being paid good money for it, but he told me that he could not help but feel that the recipients of these signs would not be very happy when they saw the messages that were on them. However, he could not have been more wrong. The employees really saw the funny side of it and really appreciated the sense of humour of their boss. In fact, my friend says that each person who received one of the signs has now got them fixed onto their wall as a permanent fixture.

Wall Plaques

I recently went to an art exhibition in the centre of Manchester at a lovely art gallery. I really enjoyed all the paintings that were on show but one of the things that really struck me about the gallery were the quality of the wall plaques that explained the paintings. Usually, in my experience, wall plaques are very basic and do nothing to detract from the painting they are cataloguing. They are merely a utilitarian object. However, these wall plaques seemed to me to be very different. The material they were made from was really good quality and the writing on them was absolutely beautiful. These luxurious touches were evident throughout the gallery which really seemed to take its responsibility as a shrine to art seriously. The building was light and airy and, in itself, seemed to be a work of art. The design of the space really made me feel instantly calm in a way that I have never known before just by entering a building. I think that the person who designed the gallery has obviously put a great deal of thought into it and really deserves an award for the space they have created.
